The Rockerbox Reading Challenge
The Rockerbox Reading Challenge is crafted to help your pupils develop active reading skills and strengthen their metacognitive abilities. Discover more about Metacognition and how the Rockerbox Reading Challenge can benefit your classroom.
While the debate around using rewards to encourage reading persists, recent studies suggest that thoughtfully chosen incentives can enhance reading motivation rather than diminish it. In particular, students who received a book as a reward for reading were more likely to continue reading compared to those who were given unrelated rewards. This is why the Rockerbox Reading Challenge also offers your class the chance to earn additional reading materials EVERY HALF TERM!
How Does the Challenge Work?
Frequency: Every half term for 5 or 6 weeks
Who can participate: Every class (or groups of students) with a Rockerbox subscription. You'll be automatically enrolled in the challenges unless you tell us you don't want to participate.
How does it work?
- When pupils read an article and answer all the related questions, the platform records that they've read 1 article. Each Rockerbox text counts only once. If pupils read the same text multiple times, their Rockerbox counter will only count it once.
- When pupils hit key milestones throughout the half term - 25, 50, 100, and 200 articles read - a new certificate will become available to them.
- You can download your certificates throughout the half term in the 'Class History' tab on your teacher dashboard or in your 'Classes' tab in your school dashboard.
- The winners of the challenge are the classes with the highest average number of reads per pupil in the class.
Please note: There needs to be a minimum of 5 pupils in a class who take part. If there are fewer than 5 pupils in your class, our algorithm will still divide by 5 for the purpose of the average.
